We sleep on the earth, and dream of the road. We wake to the road and we walk. -Robert Dickinson
POSTPONED TO DECEMBER 2020
Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles is an epic work of symphonic proportions which describes the transformational journey along the Camino de Santiago - a Catholic pilgrimage across northern Spain to the shrine of Saint James. The piece follows the pilgrims in four movements from Roncesvalles to Santiago in a pyrotechnic display of vocal colour and a celebration of camaraderie and spirituality. The work is both fraught with tension and anxiety, and great outbursts of light and effervescent joy.
Candlelight VOX is joined by Divisi Chamber Singers and several graduates of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music to form a 17 voice, one-to-a-part semichorus for Talbot’s intricately interwoven lines. An expanded Candlelight VOX will come together to sing the grander textures in the work and will frame the concert with medieval music associated with the Camino.
